Background and Objective:The skill of communicating with patient is one of the most important factors that caregivers in the operating room must have to play their role properly, and knowing the factors related to it can affect the quality of care. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the communication skills of surgical technology and anesthesiology students at Ilam University of Medical Sciences, Ilam, Iran. Materials and Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted on 163 surgical technology and anesthesiology students from Ilam University of Medical Sciences who were recruited by census in 2020. The data collection tools were demographic information questionnaire and CSTR. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistical tests of independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation by SPSS software (version 23). Results:The mean score of communication skills was 108.73±11.83. A positive and significant relationship was observed between GPA and ability to receive and send messages (P=.009); therefore, that students with higher GPA had better ability to receive and send messages. Conclusion:The results of this study indicated that the score of students' communication skills is at an average level and in a good range.
