Comparison of the Quality of Virtual Educational Classes and Students' Satisfaction in Five Faculties of Ilam University of Medical Sciences during the COVID-19 Epidemic in 2020

Background and Objective: After the spread of COVID-19 in Iran and according to World Health Organization recommendations regarding social distancing, Ilam University of Medical Sciences was forced to change its educational activities from face-to-face to online education. Therefore, the current research was conducted to compare the quality of virtual educational classes and evaluate the students' satisfaction with these classes during the COVID-19 epidemic in five faculties of Ilam University of Medical Sciences, Ilam, Iran.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in five faculties of Ilam University of Medical Sciences in 2020 and 370 students entered the study. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire concerning the quality of virtual classes and students’ satisfaction with the course, which was analyzed using independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA.
Results: Mean and SD of quality score of virtual educational classes and students' satisfaction with online classes were calculated at 47.9(25.9) and 8.2(5.9), respectively. Compared to other faculties, the students from the paramedical faculty had a more positive stance regarding the quality of holding virtual educational classes and their dimensions, and they were more satisfied with virtual educational classes (P<0.05). A significant relationship was observed between age, academic semester, and field of study with the level of satisfaction with virtual education classes and their quality from the students' perspectives (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The findings of the present research showed that the students of Ilam University of Medical Sciences evaluated the overall quality of virtual educational classes as moderate, and that they were relatively satisfied with the virtual educational course.
