Abstract

Introduction: Job satisfaction is a measure of one’s positive feelings and attitudes toward one’s job. When people report a high level of job satisfaction, it means that they really love, have good feelings about, and highly value their jobs. This study aimed to measure job satisfaction among employees working in Campus No. 1 of Ilam University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 105 employees working in Campus No. 1 of Ilam University of Medical Sciences (departments of education, research and technology, and students and culture) in summer 2020. Based on complete enumeration, all members of the population were selected as the sample. The data were collected using the 70-item job descriptive index (JDI) and then they were statistically analyzed at the 0.05 level of significance.
Results: The results showed that 40 participants (38.1%) were male, with a mean age of 42.29 years, and 63 participants (60%) were female, with a mean age of 35.68 years. The mean job satisfaction score was equal to 39.82±7.14. The results also indicated that the highest satisfaction level was related to “job in general”, “supervision”, and “people on your present job”, while the lowest satisfaction level belonged to “work on present job”, “opportunities for promotion”, and “pay”.
Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the study findings, it can be concluded that dissatisfaction with salaries and benefits was the main factor causing job dissatisfaction among the participants. Appropriate payment to employees not only motivates them and maintains their dignity but also helps them to provide a minimum livelihood and improve their occupational quality and efficiency.
